La
Riña (Rinha), new feature film by Brazilian director Marcelo Galvão,
has received positive feedback from the cinematographic market since its screening
on May 17. The film attracted audience during the Cannes Festival, even though
it had been exhibited simultaneously to Linha de Passe by Walter Salles.
Due
to the good repercussion of La Riña in the festival, many companies
have held meetings with Gatacine at the Marché du Film to discuss business
opportunities. In addition, representatives of other international film festivals
have requested copies of the film.
According
to Galvão, the trade mission in Cannes is strategic to network and promote
La Riña and other Gatacines projects abroad.
Countries like Russia, China (Taiwan) and Portugal have presented proposals to
distribute La Riña in those markets, while others have been
interested in co-productions. The polemical feature film has also caught the attention
of international sales agents.
Gatacine
intends to analyze each proposal carefully before closing businesses. We
want to come back to Brazil and evaluate the best strategy, Galvão
highlighted.
Cinema
do Brasil Program in Cannes
Gatacine
takes part in the delegation of Cinema do Brasil, program aimed at strengthening
the national cinema abroad and at attracting new opportunities to the Brazilian
market. Launched in 2006, it is an initiative jointly developed by the Siaesp
(Union of Audiovisual Industry of São Paulo State) and Apex-Brasil (Brazilian
Trade and Investment Promotion Agency) - entity linked to the Brazilian Ministry
of Development, Manufacturing and Foreign Trade and to the Ministry of Culture.
